Create your own success story
You've probably read tons of inspirational stuff by now - like rags-to-riches stories, prodigies and aha moments. Maybe you’ve wished to be the next Oprah, Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton, or the next Ellen Degeneres. Or maybe you’ve dreamt of becoming the likes of Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk, or the founders of Google, Page and Brin, or even the creators of Youtube. Well, each of them had made their mark in their industry, but every single one of them has their own unique success story. To tell you the truth, there’s no one formula for success. In addition to that, their recipe for their triumph would not necessarily work for everyone. This is the hard truth. But don’t fret, there’s good news: YOU CAN CREATE YOUR OWN SUCCESS STORY. Yep, you read that right!
It’s good to have these successful entrepreneurs as inspiration (there’s no doubt in that!), but each one of us has different backgrounds, live in different environments. We all have varying personalities, talents, and strengths, and if we try too hard to mold our future based on their stories, we might miss out on better opportunities.
There are many ways out there on how you can create your own success story… And I’m delighted to share with you some quick, simple yet effective tips on how to get started. The magic lies in taking action and creating momentum.
1. Start with your strengths. We all have our own selling points, aka our strengths, but we have to know what they are and know how to maximize them in order to become effective and successful. Lets use these strengths to our advantage to be able to overcome our fears, our doubts, and our shortcomings. Sometimes, we also possess strengths that are yet to be uncovered, so don’t be afraid to try new things and explore your other skills and proficiencies.
EXERCISE:
Make a list of your strengths and weaknesses (yes - write everything down!). Your strengths may include your skills, talents, special abilities, and traits that you find helpful and useful. On the other hand, your weaknesses may include areas that you need improvement on or matters that you are scared to deal with. Once you’re satisfied with your list, try matching each strong point to your weaknesses. Which of these strengths can you utilize to overcome a certain fear or weak point? With this, you’ll be able to create a game plan on how to convert your weaknesses into strengths, and eventually harness your strong suits to create opportunities.
2. We all come from different walks of life. Some were born rich, some were born impoverished. Some were born with the exceptional talent, and some developed their strengths through the years. Some had connections, while others worked their way up. The bottomline is: whatever our situation or circumstances, it’s always up to us as to how we use what we have. Whatever we do, wherever we are, it boils down to how we make the most of this present moment.
EXERCISE:
Write down everything you have in your life, things you own, possess right at this moment - money, time, energy, passion, a business idea, a reliable computer, an old vehicle, a degree in Psychology - anything! Gather what you have and turn them into something more, something powerful. What can you do with that passion, that psychology degree? Who can you connect with? What can you do to enrich other’s lives with your energy, your time?
Be intentional of what your treasures & gifts and take action to making the most with this present moment!
Maybe successful entrepreneurs were presented with good opportunities, but believe it or not, the most successful and inspiring ones created their own. The tip is to manage what you have at this moment - your time, your available resources, your attitude, your talent, and the most important: your drive, your passion, and your heart. Integrate these and work hard to generate favorable results after favorable results after favorable results… Remember: You ARE your story, so work on it!
